Source: FIATA FIATA is proud to bring its members a pragmatic solution to move from paper documents to paperless FBLs, which can be issued directly through their everyday tools. The FIATA solution improves the level of security of the FIATA BL in comparison to the paper version, making use of blockchain technology to authenticate the documents and provide an audit trail. Based on its eFBL data standard, FIATA has developed an API service, available free of charge to all software providers, allowing them to connect with FIATA to create secured paperless FBLs. As of today, seven software providers have already signed an agreement with the Federation to implement the solution: AKANEA, Cargowise, CargoX, edoxOnline (Global Share), InfoSysTech-IST, Nabu and Usyncro. We are very pleased to announce that the paperless FBLs can start to be issued as of today with edoxOnline, InfoSysTech-IST and

Source: Maersk On the occasion of the first International Day for Women in Maritime, A.P. Moller – Maersk’s (Maersk) today announced India’s first seafarers’ cadet programme dedicated to women. Young women who wish to choose a career in seafaring can enrol for the programme facilitated by AMET, Chennai, after completing their high school (10+2) and choose between the three-year Bachelors in Nautical Science or the four-year Bachelors in Engineering degree courses. By promoting women to take up these courses and ensuring that they get access to the right academics in the right environment, Maersk is truly committing itself to improve Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) in the long run. “Women are reshaping the corporate world, taking on responsibilities in almost every sector, function and role. However, the seafaring community, which has otherwise been male-dominated, has not progressed at the same pace as the mainstream corporates. This must change, and to bring about that change, it is necessary to start at grass root level. Women make 0.5% of the total Indian seafarers today. This gender imbalance can be improved if the whole industry makes efforts to provide proper career counselling to young women and their parents at the right age, facilitate

– Contributing air pollution control in California –

Source: MOL Mol announced that has agreed a contract to provide the funds for Clean Air Engineering Maritime, Inc (CAEM; Head office; California, U.S.A), a ship-auxiliary generator exhaust treatment company, to develop a new-generation Marine Exhaust Treatment System (Drawing 1) for use on MOL operating car carriers from 2025 to prevent air pollutions in California, U.S.A. State of California in the United States is taking advanced measures to prevent air pollution. In particular, according to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) “At-Berth Regulation“, which regulates the emission of exhaust from diesel auxiliary engines on certain classes of ships arriving in California ports in the United States, regulated ships calling in that state are required to reduce the amount of air pollutants (PM: diesel microparticles, NOx: nitrogen oxides, etc.) emitted during their mooring at ports. Regulations began for container ships in 2007, and car carriers are scheduled to be included in the regulations in 2025. In June 2015, CAEM became the first company to receive CARB approval for its barge-based Marine Exhaust Treatment System (METS-1) which captures air pollutants exhausted from the ship’s stack and treats the exhaust removing all of the required pollutants pursuant to CARB standards. IATA: Accelerate Asia-Pacific Aviation Recovery

Source: IATA The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has urged Asia-Pacific states to further ease border measures to accelerate the region’s recovery from COVID-19. “Asia-Pacific is playing catch-up on restarting travel after COVID-19, but there is growing momentum with governments lifting many travel restrictions. The demand for people to travel is clear. As soon as measures are relaxed there is an immediate positive reaction from travelers. So it is critical that all stakeholders, including governments are well-prepared for the restart. We cannot delay. Jobs are at stake and people want to travel,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General, in his keynote address at the Changi Aviation Summit. The Asia-Pacific region’s international passenger demand for March reached 17% of pre-COVID levels, after having hovered at below 10% for most of the last two years. “This is far below the global trend where markets have recovered to 60% of pre-crisis levels. The lag is because of government restrictions. The sooner they are lifted, the sooner we will see a recovery in the region’s travel and tourism sector, and all the economic benefits that will bring,” said Walsh. Walsh urged Asia-Pacific governments to continue easing measures and bring normalcy to air travel by:

Environmental benefits Reducing fuel burn by 20%, the new RTGs are an important step in the terminal’s long-term plan to have zero-carbon emissions. They are fitted with the latest Siemens technology and are capable of lifting 41-tons, with six wide stacking plus truck lanes. They can be fully monitored remotely and are integrated with the asset digitization system currently being installed in the terminal to monitor production and efficiency.
